ABI and KMTBN FORGE PARTNERSHIP FOR A BIKING AND TREE PLANTING ON EARTH DAY 2014

15 March 2014 Angeles City, Pampanga - Alay Bayan-Luson, Inc (ABI) and the Kapampangan Mt Bikers Network (KMTBN) will hold a Biking and Tree Planting event on April 26, 2014 in line with the celebration of Earth Day 2014. The two organizations shared common advocacy for the environment thus the partnership for this event was forged.

According to Anna Lea Domingo, ABI Advocacy & Partnership Program Officer, the biking event with tree planting at the Mount Arayat aims to raise awareness on the effects of the changing climate and worsening disasters. "Participants will not only enjoy the joy of biking for the environment. Their ultimate contribution would be taking part in the Tree Planting activity.", Domingo explained.

Domingo stressed that the biking event also aims to continue the advocacies of the late Wilhelmus Geertman for the protection and preservation of the environment.

The event will culminate in a tree planting activity at the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) designated site in Mt Arayat. To tap the event, a raffle draw is awaiting biker participants for some prizes from ABI sponsors.

It can be remembered that ABI celebrated Earth Day 2013 with two major activities, the Tree Planting Event in Nueva Ecija and the Environmental Advocacy Concert in Angeles City, Pampanga.

The Tree Planting activity was a partnership project of ABI with the local government of Gabaldon Nueva Ecija and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office. They were able to plant 500 seedlings in Barangay Pantoc, Gabaldon Nueva Ecija participated by members of 7 Disaster Preparedness Organizations in Gabaldon and employees of the municipal government. Members of the Knights of Columbus of the St. Paul the Apostle Parish, also in Gabaldon, joined the said activity.

Domingo said that Earth Day activities being held yearly are part of ABI's advocacy for the environment and a continuing commitment to the advocacy of the late Willem Geertman, ABI's Executive Director who was killed in July 2012 because of his selfless and untiring campaign for the protection of the environment.###
