ABI'S CBDM PROGRAM REACHES OUT TO OTHER PROVINCES OF REGION I & II

August 2011 - Angeles City, Pampanga -- "The coordinated effort of the vulnerable and less vulnerable sectors enhanced the institution's capability to reach our more vulnerable communities even outside Central Luzon." This is the statement of Mr. Wilhelmus L. Geertman, Executive Director of Alay Bayan-Luson, Inc. (ABI).

According to Geertman, ABI is now implementing the CARITAS SWITZERLAND assisted project  "Agricultural Rehabilitation Program for Ketsana and Parma Survivors in Five Regions" in Bayambang Pangasinan through its national partner, the Citizens' Disaster Response Center (CDRC). The project will benefit five (5) communities with seeds assistance and farm machineries.

Earlier in 2010, ABI implemented the Rehabilitation Assistance for Ketsana and Parma survivors in Pangasinan towns. The project provided house repair materials and non food relief items to affected families in San Fabian, Sta barbara, Mangaldan and Bayambang, all in Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, ABI started the implementation of the Integrated Health and Disaster Preparedness Program in Alfonso Castaneda in 2010 and Dupax Del Norte in 2011. The program aims to help in the Malaria Control Effort in the Vizcaya areas that renders Nueva Ecija residents vulnerable to malaria outbreaks. "The program also focuses on information education regarding environmental protection because of the continuing threats to vulnerable communities of Nueva Vizcaya and Nueva Ecija due to corporate mining and logging", Geertman added.
